Ready to spend the day as part of the crew?

The Sailor For A Day Program invites youth ages 12 and up aboard the historic oyster schooner A.J. Meerwald for an unforgettable day of sailing, teamwork, adventure, and hands-on maritime learning in Cape May, New Jersey.

What To Expect During The Sailor For A Day Program

Participants will step into the role of a sailor while working alongside our captain and crew throughout the day. From steering the ship and helping set sails to learning knot tying, navigation, marine science, and maritime history, every program is packed with interactive activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, and curiosity.

Whether they are hauling lines, exploring life in the bay through trawling, competing in team challenges, or learning traditional sailor skills, participants will experience what it’s really like to spend the day aboard a historic tall ship.
