Harry\, Musician for the Arts in NJ.\n \n6:30 our informative talk will begin. Speaker: Emmy Casper\nEmmy Casper is a Wildlife Biologist with Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. She holds two degrees from Fordham University\, a B.S. in Biology and Anthropology and an M.S. in Biology\, during which she conducted her thesis on shorebird diet during spring migration in the urban estuaries of Jamaica Bay. A proud New Jersey resident\, Emmy is passionate about protecting local wildlife and inspiring the next generation of conservationists. \n \nThe Delaware Bay is well-known for the spectacular concentration of horseshoe crabs and\nmigratory shorebirds that converge on the bayshore beaches each spring. However\, little is\nknown about the activity of another Delaware Bay visitor\, the eye-catching and charismatic\nAmerican oystercatcher. Biologist Emmy Casper will share stories from the field and discuss how on-the-ground\nmonitoring\, trail cameras\, and bird banding are all being used to learn more about the oystercatchers that call the Delaware Bay home. \n  \n  \n

Local expert Marilyn Barratt will be on the boat representing East Point Lighthouse. All proceeds go to support the Bayshore Center at Bivalve\, home of AJ Meerwald and the Delaware Bay Museum.\n5-8:30 – Live music on the docks – Rob Roy Duo\n \nThe Rob Roy Duo plays quiet\, peaceful\, contemplative music in the genres of popular music of the Renaissance era\, Spanish-influenced South American Folk\, Southern Italian Folk\, and Celtic (Scottish and Irish) as well as a few contemporary pieces. Instruments include mandolin\, mandola\, piccolo mandolin\, classical and steel-strung guitar and some hand-held percussion\, as the pieces dictate.\n6:30 – Speaker in the museum – Jim Blumstein\nThe Great Migration of the twentieth century witnessed the movement of over six million black Americans from the South\, reshaping the social\, political\, and economic landscape of the United States. Recently written historical narratives have challenged the traditional notion of a simple one-way migration\, instead emphasizing the deliberate choices and agency of black migrants. Jim’s research explores a unique aspect of the Great Migration\, focusing on the movement of black individuals from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia to the New Jersey Delaware Bayshore. Despite geographical proximity\, these regions differed significantly in terms of race relations and socio-economic conditions. The migration of black oystermen from the Eastern Shore to the Jersey Bayshore in the early twentieth century exemplifies a “rural-to-rural/ resource-to-resource” migration\, where individuals sought better opportunities without abandoning their skills and traditions. The story challenges conventional and even more recent narratives and suggests that examining similar rural-to-rural migrations could provide valuable insights into the broader dynamics of the Great Migration.

All proceeds go to support the Bayshore Center at Bivalve\, home of AJ Meerwald and the Delaware Bay Museum.\n  \nMusic on the docks!\nTrain Wreck. 5 – 8 on the Docks!\nCome enjoy the music of Train Wreck\, a local group playing old standards\, country classics\, blues and original songs\, on the docks 5 – 8 pm.\n \n5:30 in the Delaware Bay Museum\nExhibit opening of Al Huber Collection featuring tools of the trade and artifacts from BCB’s first exhibit Maritime Traditions of the Delaware Bay. Thanks to Al’s generosity in the 1990s\, the Delaware Bay Museum was born. He was a surveyor who surveyed the oystermen’s grounds where they “planted” their oysters in the Delaware Bay. He was a Bayshore Center Trustee who helped with the A.J. Meerwald restoration and the early years of the Bayshore Center.\n6:30 in the Delaware Bay Museum\nSpeaker: Michelle Horowitz\n \nThe Shorebirds of Delaware Bay\nMichelle Horowitz is an environmental educator and avid bird watcher. She has worked as a teacher naturalist for Rancocas Nature Center in Westampton\, New Jersey and New Hampshire Audubon. Michelle has a degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in conservation and natural resources from Southern New Hampshire University. She has a passion for conservation and was an active member of the Mason NH Conservation Commission. Michelle is the author of BirdNation blog (birdnationblog.wordpress.com)\, an educational website about avian behavior\, conservation\, and bird watching. \nEvery year shorebirds undertake challenging and incredible long-distance migrations from their wintering sites to their breeding grounds. The Delaware Bay is an important stopover site for more than 30 shorebird species\, including the threatened Red Knot. In this presentation we’ll explore some of the species that rely on the Delaware Bay’s rich biological resources\, the challenges they face\, and how the public can get involved in their conservation. \n  \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:2025 Bayshore Seafood Boil Fundraiser\nJoin us on Friday June 20th from 5 PM – 8 PM to kick off the summer of 2025. Celebrate summer with local seafood\, friends\, good music and support a great cause. \nBayshore Seafood Boil tickets include your own personal seafood boil bag filled with steamers\, mussels\, shrimp\, corn and potatoes. Additional buffet items include corn muffins\, summer slaw\, pulled chicken\, iced tea\, coffee\, and dessert. Tickets are $50 per person. (Ticketed entry only) \nBeer\, wine and oysters on the 1/2 shell will be available for purchase. They are not included in the ticket price. Raffle Baskets and silent auction items will help raise additional funds for educational programs and resources at the Bayshore Center. \nMusic provided by Train Wreck\n \nTickets can be purchased online on our website or by calling 856-785-2060. Rob Roy Duo\n \nThe Rob Roy duo plays an eclectic blend of acoustic instrumental music from a range of genres including Renaissance-era and later tunes of Ireland\, Scotland and Wales\, as well as American fiddle tunes.  These pieces are played in a relaxed\, contemporary manner on Roy’s guitar and Rob’s mandolin-family instruments.  And don’t be surprised to hear some contemporary music in the mix\, as well. \nSpeaker – in the Delaware Bay Museum – 6:30 – Dr. Cadmus Hull\n \nDr. Hull will present on his book White Picket Fences. “A White Picket Fence\, Lessons to Learn on the Road to Success\,” chronicles Dr. Hull’s early years in Shellpile\, Bivlave\, Berrytown and Newport. The book demonstrates that humble beginnings do not have to prevent you from dreaming big and achieving your dreams. Come get your copy and have it signed by the author!\nDr. Hull earned an Associate Degree in Education from Cumberland County College\, now Rowan College of South Jersey and both a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from Glassboro State College\, now Rowan University. His educational path led him to Nova University where he achieved his ultimate goal of a Doctorate Degree in School Leadership. Dr. Hull worked in the Vineland and Fairfield Township School districts as a classroom teacher. He went on to work in the Fairfield Township School System as Principal and Superintendent of Schools. He retired on June 30\, 2004\, after 33 years in education. A little known black history fact is that Dr. Hull was Cumberland County’s first black Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Hull is enjoying his retirement with his wife Sylvia while writing books\, reading\, and traveling. In addition\, Dr. Hull keeps himself busy these days by serving as a Clinical Teaching Supervisor for Fairleigh Dickinson University and as CEO of SSJ Books and More\, a family-owned business that involves personally authored African American books\, personalized name banner certificates and children’s personalized books.

This presentation showcases our waterways from historical and environmental perspectives and offers some insights into their current state.”\nJohn Brady recently retired from a long career in maritime museums and ship preservation\nnonprofits. He has worked at South Street Seaport Museum\, The Philadelphia Ship Preservation\nGuild\, and the Independence Seaport Museum. For thirty-two of these years\, he was a boat\nbuilder and shipwright. Under his leadership\, the Independence Seaport Museum’s boat shop\nrose to national prominence while focusing on constructing and preserving New Jersey and\nDelaware River watercraft. Following this\, he became President and CEO of the Independence\nSeaport Museum\, a post he held for ten years. More recently he served as the interim CEO of\nthe Bayshore Center at Bivalve for six months. John has published in WoodenBoat\, Sea History\,\nand Power Ships. \n  \n  \n

The film explores the migration of the horseshoe crabs and the migratory shorebirds that congregate on the shores of Delaware Bay\n\n\n\nOct. 8th – Art Series: Presentation on photographer Sam Cobb\n\nThis presentation will showcase the original work of Samuel Cobb and his great-niece Rachel Cobb on the Port Norris community\n\n\n\nOct. 22nd – Film Series: UNFILTERED The Truth About Oysters\n\nWith virtual Q&A with filmmaker : UNFILTERED: The Truth About Oysters is an Emmy award-winning documentary film that explores the oyster’s role both in our world and its own\n\n\n\nNov. 12th – Art Series: Photographers of the Delaware Bay with Michael Chirappa\n\nFrom the closing years of the nineteenth century until the early 1940s\, a series of photographers took stock of\, and responded to\, these developments on New Jersey’s Delaware Bay\n\n\n\nNov 19th Film Series: Empire Oysters Shorts\n\nView 5 short films produced\, & directed by Kevin Joseph of Empire Oyster\n\n\n\nDec. 3 2:30 pm Ty “Dancing Wolf” Ellis of Lenapehoking Reestablishment Project\n\nTy Dancing Wolf will bring and share Indigenous art with a focus on coastal art and discuss the Lenapehoking Reestablishment Project activities and efforts\n\n\n\n  \nFunding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts / Department of State and the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners through the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission

All proceeds go to support the Bayshore Center at Bivalve\, home of AJ Meerwald and the Delaware Bay Museum.\n5 – 8 – Live music on the docks\nAcoustic Breeze\n \nThe Acoustic Breeze Trio will present dockside ‘Yacht Rock’ on Friday\, October 10\, 2025. featuring easy listening pop-rock-and country hits from the 60’s to contemporary repertoire.\nSpeaker in the Delaware Bay Museum – 6:30 – John Anderson of Rancocas Pathways\nNavigating NJs Hidden Tidewaters: the heritage of the Delaware Bay and River Maritime Landscapes comes alive in an engaging presentation geared to participation.  From Native Americans\, shallops\, sails\, lighthouses\, privateers\, pirates\, steamers and tankers to shipbuilding and ship yards\, tug boat ops and barge movements; learn about the Revolutionary War to World War II and of the people and communities quietly tucked away on the Delaware Bay and River tidewater creeks and river. Come prepared to discover\, question\, confront and challenge New Jersey’s Delaware Bay tidewater heritage.\nJohn Anderson\, independent historian\, award winning conservationist\, recognized by NJ Governor’s Council on the Outdoors\, kayaker\, advocate for public access promoting NJ’s Rancocas Creek as a National Water Trail\, published author and tugboat dispatcher.  Rancocas Pathways is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to promote awareness of NJ’s tidewater marshes through public history and education on associated heritage\, natural history\, past\, present and future.\n

His approach is pure and the result is the essence of this most American of music.\nMusic by Danny Paisley and The Southern Grass\, 1:30 – 4pm\n \nDanny Paisley and the Southern Grass play powerful\, unadorned\, and intense traditional bluegrass. There is no hybrid or genre-bending music here. Barney\nHollinger\, a 5th generation Port Norris oysterman will present “State of the Oyster Industry.” Barney\nserves on the NJ Shellfish Council and State Board of Agriculture will reflect on the past year of the\noyster industry on the Delaware Bay including farm-raised and wild-caught. Edward “Ned” Gaines will\npresent “Leasing Our Waters for Shellfish\,” Spanning over 100 years\, gain a historical perspective of the\nleasing of grounds throughout the entire New Jersey coastline for the use in shellfish cultivation. Paul\nCoyne will present RU Informed About Oysters? with Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory. The\neducation speaker series will end with Lucia Osborne\, Delaware Bayshore Program Director\, “Using\nOyster Reefs to Restore the Delaware Bayshore with The American Littoral Society .” Hear about their\nprojects building oyster reefs to protect and restore the Delaware Bayshore.
