The Bayshore Center at Bivalve is the umbrella organization based in environmental education for youth and adults. It consists of three components:

  1. Our Sailing Vessel – A 1928 Oyster Schooner A. J. Meerwald is our floating classroom used to transport youth and adults back in time while investigating the natural environment of our rivers, bays and oceans.
  2. Our Community Events & Programs are held in historic 1920’s oyster shipping sheds and on our wharves along the Maurice River feeding into the Delaware Bay. They used to hold schooners packed with oysters from they days catch.
  3. The Delaware Bay Museum – The museum specializes in the history of NJ’s Bayshore connecting the environment,  oyster industry, and work force from the 1920s. We have everything and anything related to oystering on Delaware dating back to the 1920s.

Through the state’s official tall ship, the oyster schooner A. J. Meerwald (AJM) and historic Delaware Bay museum, the Bayshore Center at Bivalve works to further the understanding the human impact on NJ’s aquatic environment through education, advocacy and programs.
